PALO ALTO BATTLEFIELD PICNIC AREA
The main picnic area at Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park is located on the north side of the park’s Visitor Center. Four tables (no grills) under pavilions with slatted roofs are situated on concrete pads connected to a paved walkway, so those in wheelchairs can use any of them. The slatted roofs provide some, but not complete shade, and of course they won’t do picnickers much good if it is raining. All tables are taken on a first come, first served basis. Restrooms are inside the Visitor Center.
The tables have a nice view of the Palo Alto Battlefield. In fact, the paved battlefield trail begins just to the right of the picnic area.
RESACA DE LA PALMA PICNIC AREA
A second picnic area at Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park is at the Resaca de la Palma unit of the park. Here you will find seven picnic tables and a covered pavilion in a wooded area next to the restroom building. As with the picnic area at Palo Alto, there are no grills and everything is taken on a first come, first served basis.
