SHILOH BATTLEFIELD TOUR STOP #12

The Jones Field stop on the Shiloh National Military Park battlefield tour consists of nothing more than a field and some information panels. Fighting took place here on both days of the battle (April 6-7, 1862).

On April 6th, Union troops temporarily stopped the Confederate advance around noon. At this point, the Union army had been pushed back nearly a mile from where it started earlier that morning (Shiloh Church area).

Fighting resumed at Jones Field on the second day of the battle. With Union forces now bolstered by fresh reinforcements, the tables turned, and by early afternoon the Confederates were in retreat. It wasn’t long before they were back at Shiloh Church where they started the day before.
