The Walpack Center School House in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area was built in 1893. It remained open until 1951, at which time the Walpack students were transferred to the school in Sandyston Township. The garage attached to the school house was added around 1950. It is now used for storage.

The building by the street that looks like an old service station garage was the Walpack Township Volunteer Fire Department Station 1. It was also built in 1950. The Walpack Center fire department was dissolved in 1984.

The school house and fire station are the only two buildings on Main Street at Walpack Center that are not owned by the National Park Service. The school house has been used as a municipal building for Walpack Township since at least the 1970s. It is currently in rough shape. The roof needs repair, the chimney needs to be removed, and the cupula and school bell are currently being stored at the Walpack Methodist Church across the street. As of late 2023, talks of repairs are underway, and by the time you read this the building may be in like-new condition…or it may have gotten even worse.
