Main Millbrook Village web page
The General Store and Post Office building at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area’s Millbrook Village is an authentic building that was moved from another location to Millbrook in 1973. It sits on the site of the village’s original general store.
General stores in rural towns often housed a post office. There was no home delivery until the early 1900s, and even then service was not available nationwide until mid-century. Having a post office in your store was a great marketing tool because it forced customers through the front door to get their mail.
The Millbrook General Store had a number of owners and continued to operate up until around 1910.
