Mohican Outdoor Center’s main office and visitor center in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
The Mohican Outdoor Center is located within Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area at 50 Camp Mohican Road in Blairstown, New Jersey. It is operated by the non-profit Appalachian Mountain Club, which leases the property from the National Park Service. Its main objective is to provide camping options for those hiking the Appalachian Trail, which passes through the area. However, it also offers the campground, as well as cabins and meeting facilities, to the general public. The facilities, including overnight accommodations, are available for hosting weddings, corporate meetings, church retreats, and other group events. The campground is open year-round and consists of walk-in tent sites for individuals and groups (bring your own tent) and cabins that can accommodate anywhere from 1 to 16 people. Some cabins even have kitchens for those who want to do their own cooking. Keep in mind that unless your group rents the entire cabin, each bed is up from grabs (typically rented for the night by an Appalachian Trail through-hiker). No RVs are allowed other than vans or pick-up truck campers. The parking lot is not suited to hold large vehicles.
The Mohican Outdoor Center also has a lake on the property, Catfish Pond, for swimming, paddling, and fishing. Visitors can rent canoes and kayaks from May through October. Other outdoor activities include hiking the local trails and snowshoeing in the winter. The Outdoor Center provides direct access to the Appalachian Trail and the Rattlesnake Swamp Trail. Hikers can also depart from here to hike the Coppermine and Kaiser trails, though there is closer parking to the trailheads at Turtle Beach.
