TYPE

The Namanock Canoe Launch in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is for hand-launched watercraft only (canoes, kayaks, rafts, etc.).

LOCATION

The Namanock Canoe Launch is located at the Namanock Recreation Site on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River. It is on a pothole-plagued dirt road that branches off from Old Mine Road a few miles north of Dingmans Ferry. The dirt road forks just before coming to the picnic area, with a right leading to the canoe launch. If using Google Maps for directions, search “Namanock Recreation Site.”

If you are traveling down the Delaware River from Milford Beach, the Namanock Canoe Launch is approximately a quarter mile past the downriver end of Namanock Island.

FEES

There are no fees to launch your boat at Namanock.

BOAT RAMP DETAILS

Calling the canoe launch at Namanock a canoe launch is like calling any spot along the Delaware River where you can get to the water a canoe launch. It is in the middle of nowhere, and the ramp itself is located at the bottom of a very steep hill. I suggest starting or ending your trip on the Delaware River at the boat ramps at either Milford Beach or Dingmans. There is a fee to park at these two places in the summer, but I’d rather pay money than drag my kayak up or down the steep hill. I’ve launch and exited from worst places, but that doesn’t mean it’s fun.

If coming down the river, unless you know exactly where to look, you most likely will pass right by the Namanock Canoe Launch. I never saw it. In fact, later on I had to drive out to the Namanock Recreation Site just to see what I missed.

In addition to the canoe launch, there is a picnic area and a fancy outhouse at the Namanock Recreation Site. A fancy outhouse is what Jed Clampett would call a portable toilet in a permanent building.
