Martin Van Buren National Historic Site in Kinderhook, New York, preserves the home and farm of Martin Van Buren, the 8th president of the United States. Van Buren purchased the property in 1839 and named it Lindenwald. He lived here from 1841 until his death in 1862.
Guided tours are the only way to see the inside of Van Buren’s house at Lindenwald. There is no charge, but visitors do need to get a ticket at the Visitor Center for space on each tour is limited. The grounds immediately surrounding the house can be seen along a .75-mile loop trail that covers level terrain.
OPERATING HOURS
The Visitor Center for Martin Van Buren National Historic Site is typically open daily starting in late May and continuing through the end of October between the hours of 9 AM and 4:30 PM.
Tours of Van Buren’s Lindenwald home are given on Thursdays through Sundays from late May through October, with the first tour starting at 10 AM and the last at 3 PM. Tours are given every hour except at noon.
The grounds of the park are open year-round from 7 AM to sunset.
