GENERAL INFORMATION
The lower level of Alexander Hamilton’s summer house, The Grange, functions as a visitor center and exhibit area where you can learn about the life of Hamilton.
OPERATING HOURS
Hamilton Grange National Memorial Visitor Center is open year-round on Wednesdays through Sundays between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM, except when closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas days. Keep in mind that times can always change, so before making travel plans be sure to get the latest schedule on the National Park Service’s official Operating Hours and Seasons web page for the park.

PARK FILM
A twenty-minute film about Alexander Hamilton shows on demand in a small media room. It covers the same ground as the information in the adjoining exhibit room, so if time is limited, you can watch the film in a much shorter time than reading through all of the exhibits. There is no objectionable material. The film is suitable for all ages.

EXHIBITS
Information on Alexander Hamilton can be found in the first floor exhibit room of The Grange, Hamilton Grange National Memorial
A small gallery of information panels tells the story of Alexander Hamilton. The information is arranged by topic, and all facets of Hamilton’s life are covered, including his move from St. Croix in the Caribbean to New York City; his service in the military during the American Revolution; his career after the war; his stint as the first United States Secretary of the Treasury; and his eventual duel and death at the hands of Vice-President Aaron Burr. As mentioned, if you don’t like reading, the film contains most of the same information.

SCHEDULING YOUR TIME
To read through all of the information in the exhibit area takes about 30 minutes, whereas the film only takes up 20 minutes. I suggest seeing it all if you have time, otherwise the choice is yours. There is anywhere from a half hour to an hour and a half between Ranger-guided tours of the house, so if you have to wait, you can kill time learning about Hamilton. You can also step outside to take some photos of the house and take a short walk around St. Nicholas Park. The park has nothing to do with the history of The Grange or Alexander Hamilton, but if the weather is nice, a casual stroll is certainly relaxing.
With a few exceptions, use of any photograph on the National Park Planner website requires a paid Royalty Free Editorial Use License or Commercial Use License. See the Photo Usage page for details.
