A small picnic area at Pipestone National Monument is located on Reservation Avenue, the road that leads to the park. A few picnic tables (no grills) are in a field next to a pond and three large boulders known as the Three Maidens. These are erratics: large rocks carried from one place to another by a glacier. The Three Maidens are made of granite, and there is no granite in Pipestone.
All of the buildings next to the National Park Service picnic area are part Hiawatha Pageant Park, a Pipestone city park. Here there are more tables, a covered pavilion for group picnics, and even a lodge that can be rented for weddings and other events. If you wish to host a group picnic, this is the place to do it, not the Pipestone National Monument picnic area. For more information, visit the Hiawatha Pageant Park website.
