Lock 67 is located at Mile 161.7 on the C&O Canal towpath. It is not accessible by vehicle. To reach it, walk .75 miles downstream from the Town Creek Aqueduct at Mile 162.4. There is parking at the aqueduct. See the Locks and Lockhouses web page for an interactive location map.

Lock 67 on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal is known as Darkey’s Lock, which comes from the name of the lockkeeper, Hugh Darkey. It is one of 13 locks on the upper end of the canal that were made from both wood and stone in order to save money. The wood portion caused immediate problems, and most of it was replaced with concrete starting in 1891. Notice the stone construction at the ends of the lock and the smooth concrete in the center. Both the stone and concrete walls are still in excellent condition.
