DRIVING TOUR STOP 10

North Ridges

Stop 10 on the driving tour of Poverty Point National Monument is at the ridges on the north end of the ridge complex, which are the best preserved ridges in the park. The Driving Guide points out that this area was lower than the areas to the south, so it had to be built up just to get it level with the rest of the complex before construction on the ridges could even begin. The ridges in this area were once an estimated six feet tall, but over the years they have eroded away. Even so, Stop 10 is the best place to see the ridges at Poverty Point. Looking into the woods on the left, you can clearly see Ridges 2, 3, and 4.
