Park Rangers at Effigy Mounds National Monument lead guided hikes in the North Unit of the park during the summer. The typical destination is Fire Point, a two-mile round trip hike. There are lots of stops, so despite the terrain being hilly, the hike is not very strenuous. If you want to see the rest of the unit, you are welcome to leave the tour on the way back and continue north on your own. Rangers also give short lectures about the park at 2:30 PM on most days at the Visitor Center.
All Ranger programs are listed each day on a board outside the Visitor Center. You can also check the National Park Service’s Guided Tours and Calendar web pages for Effigy Mounds National Monument. In addition to the hikes, there are special events held throughout the summer. Schedules will be posted on one of these two web pages.
