There are two picnic areas at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. The park is a day use area, so there is no overnight parking or camping.
VISITOR CENTER PICNIC AREA
The largest picnic area is located near the Visitor Center. There are fifteen tables in a wooded area. The tables are made from recycled plastic, so you do not have to worry about getting splinters in your butt. There are also six grills, but they are not necessarily located at the tables, which seem to be strewn haphazardly around the grounds. It is possible to move the tables, but they are very heavy. All tables are taken on a first come, first served basis.
There is also a pavilion with two picnic tables at the Visitor Center, but it is separate from the main picnic area. The pavilion is located on the hill behind the building where the Kennesaw Mountain Summit shuttle bus picks up passengers on the weekends, and it really appears to be used more as a bus waiting area. However, there are picnic tables under the shelter, so there is nothing stopping you from eating lunch here. Just expect to be surrounded by people waiting for the bus every half hour (on the weekends).
CHEATHAM HILL ROAD PICNIC AREA
A second picnic area is located at the parking lot on Cheatham Hill Road, which is not too far down from the John Ward Road intersection. There are ten tables that are also made of recycled plastic but no grills. As with the Visitor Center Picnic Area, all tables are taken on a first come, first served basis.
