There are two picnic areas at the Island Ford Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, both located behind the Visitor Center building. Walk around the left side of the building on the paved sidewalk to access them. All tables at Island Ford are taken on a first come, first served basis.

The first picnic area that you will see is a covered pavilion. Take the stairs that branch off of the sidewalk to the left to reach it (you can see the pavilion from the stairs). There are three picnic tables and a built-in grill with a chimney. This grill is huge, about four times the size of a typical picnic area grill.

To reach the second picnic area, bypass the stairs and keep walking along the sidewalk. This will curve to the right, taking you behind the Visitor Center and over to a large field—Hewlett Field—on the right side of the building. There are five tables and one grill, all within view of the Chattahoochee River. The Island Ford Boat Ramp is next to the picnic area.
