Island Ford Unit Main Page

The Island Ford unit of Chattahoochee River National Recreation area has a canoe launch located behind the Visitor Center. You can access the ramp by parking at the Visitor Center, but you’d have a very long way to carry your equipment. The best place to access the launch is from the far end of Hewlett Field. When driving down Island Ford Parkway, just before you get to the Visitor Center is a road to the right. A sign marked “Hewlett Field Canoe / Raft Launch” points the way. You still have to walk across the field to the launch point, but at least it’s a straight shot over even terrain. Once you unload your equipment, park at the Visitor Center and walk back to the canoe launch from the rear of the building. Parking is not allowed at the end of the road near Hewlett Field.
