BOAT RAMP DETAILS
The canoe launch is located at the base of the Frenchtown Bridge on the downriver side of the abutment. A steep and narrow path runs from the road above right along the abutment down to the water. While I did not launch or land here, it does not look all that convenient. In truth, calling this a canoe launch is like calling any random spot on the river where you can get down to the water a canoe launch. I advise starting or ending your trip on the Lower Delaware National Wild and Scenic River some place else. The Giving Pond Recreation Area is less than a mile upriver in Pennsylvania, and it has a very nice place for launching a canoe or kayak. The only drawback is that launch permits are required.
There is a small park a stone’s throw from the bridge on River Road with plenty of parking for vehicles, but this is a strip parking lot. If the closer spaces are taken, you could end up pretty far down the road. There is no official unloading zone at the bridge, though depending on traffic, you might be able to pull off the road far enough to unload you boat and gear before finding a parking spot. This is another reason why starting or ending a river trip here is more than likely just going to end up being a major hassle.
