Complete information about visiting the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is now available on National Park Planner.
In 1945, author and poet Carl Sandburg moved his family from the sand dunes of Lake Michigan to a country home is Flat Rock, North Carolina, to make room for his wife Lilian’s prize goat herd. The home, known as Connemara, was where Sandburg would spend the last 22 years of his life. One year after his death in 1967, Lilian left the home and all possessions to the National Park Service, which created the very first National Park dedicated to a poet in 1968.
