PARK FILM

Before heading out to tour Fort Moultrie, particularly if you are on your own and not part of a Ranger tour, it is best to learn something about the fort so you have a better understanding of what you are looking at. One of the more entertaining ways to educate yourself is by watching a documentary film, and Fort Moultrie has a 22-minute video on the fort and the coastal defense system. The film shows every half hour in the Visitor Center’s movie theater.

MUSEUM

The other way to learn about Fort Moultrie is by perusing the museum exhibits. The museum is divided into sections based on the military time periods for when the fort was active: the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War I, and World War II. There is also an exhibit on the slave trade at Sullivans Island. The museum is comprised of information panels and actual artifacts from the different time periods. A Civil War enthusiast can read through all of the information in the museum in about 30 minutes.
