There are two Bulfinch Gatehouses within President’s Park. One is located on the corner of 15th Street and Constitution Avenue (pictured) and the second on the corner of 17th and Constitution. Built from sandstone around 1827 from plans by architect Charles Bulfinch, both gatehouses were originally located at the base of the U. S. Capitol. They were taken apart and removed in 1874 when the landscape around the Capitol was redesigned by Frederick Olmstead. In 1889, both were reconstructed at their present locations.
