George Washington Memorial Parkway | ARLINGTON MEMORIAL BRIDGE

Arlington Memorial Bridge

Arlington Memorial Bridge

Arlington Memorial Bridge runs between Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial, connecting Virginia to Washington, D. C. Construction began in 1926, and it opened to traffic in 1932. It is considered the most beautiful bridge in Washington.

Nine arches support its 2,000 foot span. The center arch once functioned as a draw bridge, but it was no longer used after 1961. The drawbridge arch itself was replaced by a standard arch in 2018.

Arlington Memorial Bridge is part of the National Park System and is managed by the National Park Service as sub unit of the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
