TYPE

The Upper Black Eddy Boat Ramp can accommodate trailer-launched and hand-launched watercraft. It is open from 5 AM to 10 PM.

LOCATION

The boat ramp is located at 1517 River Road in Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania. If using Google Maps for directions, search “UPPER BLACK EDDY BOAT LAUNCH.”

FEES

The Upper Black Eddy Boat Ramp is owned by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC). While there is no specific fee to use the ramp, a fee-based launch permit is required for all types of watercraft including canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, rowboats, rafts, and sailboats without a motor. This applies even to out-of-state paddlers who are in Pennsylvania on vacation unless their home state already requires launch permits for non-motorized boats and their boat has one attached. Those from states that do not require such permits must get one from the PFBC. If you have three months before your vacation, you can get a permit by mail. There are also retail stores in Pennsylvania where launch permits are sold. See the PFBC’s Registering / Titling An Unpowered Boat web page for details (scroll to the bottom for Launch Permits).

BOAT RAMP DETAILS

The Upper Black Eddy Boat Ramp is a concrete ramp suitable for launching all types of small watercraft. The drawback is that the parking lot only has four standard parking spaces and one for those with a handicap parking sticker. Spaces are roughly 40 feet long, so not all vehicles with trailers will fit. I parked my Toyota Tacoma, and there really isn’t any room for a trailer other than something that might haul a Jet Ski. There is no street parking or any other parking area close by.
