BRICES CROSSROADS BATTLEFIELD TOUR STOP 10
The tenth stop on the Brices Crossroads Battlefield Tour is at the Tishomingo Creek Bridge, which is just down the road from the Log Cabin Knoll. A modern bridge marks the spot of the Civil War-era bridge. It is here that a bottleneck was created by fleeing Union soldiers and supply wagons. As Confederate artillery fire rained down from Log Cabin Knoll, Union soldiers jumped into the creek to cross and wagons were eventually abandoned.
In addition to seeing the creek and bridge where the action took place, you can read about different topics on three wayside exhibits. One gives a listing of supplies and men captured by the Confederates; another tells the story of the panic at the creek that led to many deaths; and a third details the life of Chickasaw Chief Tishomingo for whom the creek and other Mississippi landmarks are named. Allow ten minutes for this stop.
