BRICES CROSSROADS BATTLEFIELD TOUR STOP 7
The seventh stop on a tour of the Brices Crossroads battlefield is the National Park Service’s Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield Site. Parking is at a roadside pullout next to the property. The battlefield site consists of nothing more than a memorial, a couple of cannon, and two wayside exhibits. It takes all of ten minutes for a visit if you read the information.
On the same side of Bethany Road but on the opposite corner is the Confederate Artillery Monument. This is dedicated to the two Confederate officers in charge of artillery, captains John Morton and T. W. Rice. Under the orders of General Nathan Bedford Forrest, the two led an artillery charge—not a cavalry charge, not an infantry charge, but an artillery charge—towards the tail end of the battle.
The next stop on the battlefield tour is a Confederate mass grave at the Bethany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church cemetery located right next to Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield Site, so you don’t even have to get in your car and drive anywhere.
