The Suwanee Creek unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area has no facilities or maintained hiking trails. There is an old service road that leads to the river, but parking is in a neighborhood and NO PARKING signs line the entire main road of the subdivision. To park, you’d have to find a side road in the subdivision and walk to the trailhead. This means parking smack dab in front of somebody’s house. Sorry, folks, but to me that’s just rude.

On top of that a Park Ranger told me that once you get to the river, an estimated 1-mile, one-way hike down the old road, there’s no guarantee that the trails that once ran along the river are even passable today. According to the Ranger, if you turn left at the river you will eventually come to a marsh area where the trail ends. To the right was some sort of old water treatment plant or something like that. I wouldn’t mind checking it out if it weren’t for the parking situation, but I just don’t feel comfortable parking in front of somebody’s house and leaving my car there for a few hours. Not that I’m afraid something will get stolen, but as I mentioned, I just don’t find that to be civilized behavior.
