JOHNSON FERRY NORTH PICNIC AREA
There are five picnic tables—no grills—located under a patch of shade trees near the lower parking lot at the Johnson Ferry North Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. All tables are taken on a first come, first served basis. There is also a modern restroom at this location.
JOHNSON FERRY SOUTH PICNIC AREA
A large, covered pavilion is situated in a grassy field a short distance from the parking lot, but there are only two picnic tables available (no grills). Believe it or not, the pavilion can be reserved by obtaining a permit in advance, though with two tables and no grills, that doesn’t make much sense (you can bring your own charcoal grills). A better place to host a large gathering is the Abbotts Bridge Picnic Area. For either facility, call the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area at (678) 538-1200.
