The only hand-paddled watercraft launches in the Cochran Shoals Unit of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area are located at the Powers Island section, on the actual island. A picnic pavilion is located on the mainland, so when standing with your back to the pavilion, look towards the forest and you will see a footbridge that connects to the island.

There is a launch on the east side of the island, and you can see it as you cross the bridge, but this puts you into the water along a narrow channel between the island and the mainland that is often clogged with trees and other debris. Therefore, walk the very short distance to the other side of the island to the main canoe launch located directly on the Chattahoochee River.

Continue down a short path once you cross the bridge to reach the main canoe launch. You do have to carry your equipment further, but it is only about 50 yards (you can see the footbridge from this launch, that’s how close it is).
