All trails within the Five Forks Battlefield unit of Petersburg National Battlefield are open to hikers and bikers. Most are open to horseback riders as well. A trail map is available at the Eastern Front Visitor Center, but it is in black and white and very hard to read. The color option, which is only available in electronic format, is the one you want. Cell service is good at the park, so you should have no problem accessing it while on the trails. Better yet, download it to your phone or home computer ahead of time.

Trails are blazed with either red or yellow. Blazes are paint splotches on trees or rocks that you follow like Hansel and Gretel breadcrumbs. Here at Petersburg National Battlefield they mean something additional. Yellow-blazed trails are open to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. Red-blazed trails are for hikers and bikers.

The following is a list of trails that I personally hiked. See the trail review page for more information and photos.
