While Yorktown itself is not officially part of Colonial National Historical Park, many of the 18th century homes in the historic district are owned by the National Park Service. The Nelson House is open from April through October, but only as staffing allows. A daily schedule is posted at the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center. All other buildings are either private residences or are being operated as businesses, including a few museums and art galleries. For further information on visiting Yorktown, see the Historic Yorktown web page here on National Park Planner.
All of the following buildings except the Custom House are either owned by the National Park Service or operate in partnership with the National Park Service. For photos and information about the buildings, see the following web pages.
Dr. Corbin Griffin’s Medical Shop
Other buildings that you might want to see are the Sessions House, Smith House, and Ballard House, all located on the same block as the Nelson House. Grace Church is located between the historic and shopping districts. The congregation started in 1697, though the current building is from 1920. Archer Cottage is down by the York River in the shopping district.
