The Mariah Wright House at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is one of the buildings in the park that is off the beaten path. From the parking lot, walk down the grass Back Lane and turn right on Bocock Lane. The walk to the house is a little less than .2 mile.
The post-and-beam house was built in 1823 by Prior Wright and inherited by his wife, Mariah, when he died in 1851. By the time the National Park Service acquired it, additions had been made, including an attached kitchen wing. All post-war additions were removed when the house was restored in 1965 to its Civil War-era appearance.
The Mariah Wright House is not open to the public.
