Those looking for a Florida-like beach can find one at the Frisco Beach located a little over a mile west of the Frisco Campground at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Park here for access to what I feel is the best beach area on Hatteras Island. For one thing, no vehicles are allowed on this beach, so you don’t have to worry about your kids getting run over. Making it even more family-friendly, lifeguards are on duty on a section of the beach from Memorial Day through Labor Day, 9 AM to 5 PM.

A bathhouse offers changing rooms and rinse-off showers, and a boardwalk takes visitors 100 yards over the dunes and to the beach. You aren’t limited to what’s in front of you—you can walk on the beach for miles in either direction. It’s all part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore and open to the public.
