Pavilions at the picnic area near the Cape Lookout National Seashore Visitor Center at Harker’s Island
Harkers Island
A wonderful picnic area is located directly across the street from the Cape Lookout National Seahore Visitor Center at Harkers Island. Five covered pavilions housing 14 tables are situated right along the water of Back Sound. Grills are also available. Although nice, it is not the type of picnic area where you would hold a family reunion or other gathering due to a lack of activity grounds, but it’s a relaxing place to have a lunch or snack while visiting the Harkers Island portion of the park.
South Core Banks
There are two covered pavilions with a couple of tables at South Core Banks near the Cape Lookout Lighthouse Complex. One is located right at the ferry dock and the other is near the boardwalk that runs from the Light Station Visitor Center to the beach. There are no grills.

North Core Banks
The only picnic table I saw during my exploration of North Core Banks was a solitary table at the Long Point cabin complex.
Shackleford Banks
I only visited the east side of the Shackleford Banks where the wild horses are, and there are no picnic tables there. The west side is where people go for the beach, so there may be a table or two, and if so I suspect they are like the other picnic facilities on South and North Core Banks, not like at Harkers Island.
