There are three historic areas to visit within Cape Lookout National Seashore. One is located at the very northern tip of North Core Banks, Portsmouth Village, and the other two are located at the very southern end of South Core Banks, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse complex and the remains of Cape Lookout Village Historic District. Oddly enough, it is not possible to get to Portsmouth Village from within the park. You can only get there from Cape Hatteras National Seashore, a 500-mile round trip drive from Harkers Island at Cape Lookout National Seashore.
