Trails: Appalachian Trail
Picnic Tables: None
Back in 2015 when I was at the Taylor Mountain View overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, you couldn’t see a thing due to the forest that had grown up around it. Based on satellite views of the overlook, sometime between my visit and May 2017 over an acre of trees were cut down to restore the view. However, one large tree was left right in the middle. It must be some special tree, because leaving it split the vista in half. With it gone, there would be an exceptional, uninterrupted 180° view of Taylor Mountain and the surrounding area, the Great Valley. As is, there are still great views on either side of the tree.
There is also parking for the Appalachian Trail at Taylor Mountain View. The northbound trailhead is on the north end of the parking lot, and the southbound trailhead is on the opposite side of the Blue Ridge Parkway at the south end of the parking lot.
