I don’t know what you are supposed to see at the Soco Gap Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but what you do see is a wall of rhododendrons (?) that runs the length of the entire parking lot starting five feet from the curb.
Today the Soco Gap Overlook serves only as a parking area for the Mountains to Sea Trail. One trailhead is located in the parking lot while the other is just up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the north and on the other side of the road. There is a gate that the National Park Service uses to close the Parkway when the weather is bad, and the trailhead is just past this.
