The Pink Beds is a name given to the valley below by early settlers who logged the area, leaving open fields for pink wildflowers and rhododendrons to flourish. However, the area has long since been reforested, so the name no longer describes the scene along the Blue Ridge Parkway today.
The view at Pink Beds is expansive—more than 180° due to the curved parking area (the panorama below is comprised of a whopping 11 photos). However, I did’t find it particularly interesting. Also, like the Funnel Top Overlook to the north, this faces east and is best avoided in the morning if you are looking to get a good photo, as you do not want the sun shining into the camera lens.
