There is no view of Mount Hardy at the Mount Hardy View stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway because the entire area is now a forest. There is even an information sign that explains why there is no longer a view. Back in the early 1940s, the United Daughters of the Confederacy planted red spruce trees on 125 acres to create the North Carolina Confederate Veterans Memorial Forest. The forest commemorates the 125,000 North Carolina soldiers who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
