Trails: Appalachian Trail, Spec Mine Trail
Picnic Tables: 1 (no grill)
Montvale View is one in a series of overlooks that are within a few miles of each other on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here you can peer into Goose Creek Valley at the town of Montvale. This is an excellent, 180° vista that is free from obstruction by unruly trees or other vegetation. Like Pine Tree Overlook a mile to the north, this view faces southeast and photos taken in the morning hours will be washed out due to the sun shining in your face. For the best shots, visit Montvale View in the afternoon.
You can access the Appalachian Trail and the Spec Mine Trail from this stop. AT trailheads are located on both sides of the parking lot. There is an information panel about the AT as well. The Spec Mine Trail begins on the other side of the Blue Ridge Parkway about 200 yards south of the overlook. The trail is a 2.8-mile (one way) strenuous hike from here to State Route 645.
There is one picnic table at this stop. Located on the right side of the parking lot, it marks the location of the southbound Appalachian Trail trailhead.
