The Low Notch Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway has a large, loop parking area. There is a decent view at the far end near a post and rail fence, but the main purpose of this stop is to provide access to the Bluff Mountain Trail, a 7.5-mile trail that runs from the Brinegar Cabin to the Basin Cove Overlook. The eastbound trailhead, which takes you to the cabin, is located at the fence. The westbound trailhead is located just before the loop portion of the driveway begins. For more information, visit the Doughton Park Hiking Trails web page.

The Mountains to Sea Trail runs from Great Smoky Mountains National Park to the North Carolina Outer Banks on the Atlantic Ocean. However, the MTS is really just a combination of many existing trails with maybe a few unique segments created to connect them together. At this point on its route it follows the Bluff Mountain Trail. Visit the Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail website for more information on this 1,150-mile trail.
