The Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway website reports that a 2006 landslide wiped out the Parkway in this area and that the Curtis Valley Overlook came about as the result of repairs. This is an eastward-facing overlook, so afternoons are the best time to get a photo. If it weren’t for a loan pine tree smack dab in the center of the vista, this would be a five star overlook. Why the National Park Service can’t get it cut down for it is too late is beyond me.
