There are actually two Arnold Valley View parking areas on the Blue Ridge Parkway, one right after another and on the same side of the road. Both are the equivalent of emergency lanes on an interstate highway, so be careful getting out of your vehicle.
The scenic view at the southern Arnold Valley View parking area is about as good a view as you’ll find on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are mountains in the foreground, mountains that fade to grey in the far distance, and Arnold Valley down below with its fields and farms. It’s not quite a 180° vista, but it is close.
There is a slight curve in the Blue Ridge Parkway between the two pullouts that results in a slightly different view from each. At the northern parking area the fields in the valley are more prominent. There is also a rock outcropping that splits the vista in half, but you can climb up on it for an unobstructed panoramic view. Unfortunately, I’m getting too old for that, so I got photos from both sides of the rocks.
