You will find that from around Milepost 430 through 420 that there are some wonderful views at overlooks on one side of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Haywood-Jackson Overlook is not on that side. To make matters worse, dozens of bushy pine trees block 80 percent of the view, so you have to walk the length of the parking lot to get a peak here and there between the trees. I suggest driving right by if a view is all you are after and stopping at the Cowee Mountain Overlook, .3-mile to the north. This is one of the best on the Parkway.

I do, however, highly recommend a stop at Haywood-Jackson if a great hike is what you are after. Here you will find the start of the Richland Balsam Trail. This 1.5-mile loop is one of my favorite hikes on the Parkway. See the Richland Balsam Trail web page for complete details and plenty of photos.
