Hiking trails are located in two sections of Floyd Bennett Field at Gateway National Recreation Area: the North Forty Natural Area at the northern end of the airport and on the west side of Flatbush Avenue near the park’s main entrance. The trails at North Forty offer nothing scenic and are for exercise purposes only. However, the trails at Flatbush Avenue lead out to what is unofficially called Bottle Beach (aka Glass Beach), one of the most fascinating places I have ever been to in a National Park. Ecological disaster or archaeological goldmine?  You decide.
