Bikes are allowed on the 4.9-mile Battle Road Trail that runs from Fiske Hill to Meriam’s Corner in the Battle Road Unit of Minute Man National Historical Park. This is a fantastic ride through lovely terrain with only mild hills, plus the trail passes numerous historical sites, a few that you can even stop in and visit. Helmets are required for those 16 years old and younger. Class 1, 2, and 3 E-Bikes are also allowed, though bikes must be peddled at all times—no throttle usage. The speed limit is 10 MPH for any type of bike.

Most of the Battle Road Trail is a gravel path, wide in some places, narrow in others. There are some areas of loose sand and gravel, and because of this off-road bikes are recommended. Some of the sandy spots had me a little concerned even on a mountain bike, especially those at the bottom of hills. While it is tempting to go full speed down a hill, I don’t advise it because if you hit the sand going fast you may crash.

There are two sections of boardwalk that carry hikers and bikers over wetlands. Bikers are supposed to dismount and push their bikes on the boardwalk because there is no way for a hiker and a biker, or two bikers, to pass each other without the biker dismounting. The wetlands are near the Stow-Hardy House on the west side of the trail and just east of the four Brooks Family houses near Bloody Angle. In the 1700s, farmers drained the wetlands, so these were just fields. Now the area has been left natural and the wetlands have returned.

Bikes are also allowed on the paved path between the Minute Man statue and the North Bridge Visitor Center in the North Bridge Unit of Minute Man National Historical Park. However, this path is only .3-mile long, so the ride isn’t worth unloading your bike. If you do bike the trail, you must walk your bike from the Monument Road parking lot to the statue on the other side of the North Bridge.

No bikes are allowed on the Fiske Hill Loop Trail, Vernal Pool Trail, Minute Man Trail, and Buttrick Garden Path. If you have a bike with you when you visit these trails, you must get off and push it.
