Seven picnic tables are located behind the Fort Frederica National Monument Visitor Center. Four of the tables are new and made of recycled plastic, and the three wooden tables are also in excellent condition, so you won’t get any splinters. Though small, the grounds are inviting and well maintained. The only downside is that the picnic area is a good distance from the parking lot, so you must haul your supplies 50 to 150 yards, depending on how close you can park to the Visitor Center building. Because of this, when I visited, I opted to eat in my car.
If you are at the Bloody Marsh Memorial Unit of the park, there are three picnic tables situated right next to the parking lot, making picnicking a hell of a lot easier than at the main section of Fort Frederica.
All tables are taken on a first come, first served basis, plus there are no grills. The picnic areas at Fort Frederica National Monument are meant for park guests who just want to have a bite to eat, not for organized group outings.
