OCUMULGEE MOUNDS VISITOR CENTER PICNIC AREA
The largest picnic area at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is located at the opposite end of the parking lot from the Visitor Center building. There are roughly thirty tables, but no grills. Some of the tables are connected to the parking lot via a paved path, so those in wheelchairs can access them. The rest are in the grass. Large trees shade the area from the sun.
This picnic area can be reserved for large group events. A Special Use Permit is required. If you would like more information, call the park at (478) 752-8257. When not reserved, all tables are taken on a first come, first served basis.
There are also a few tables (no grills) next to the Visitor Center near the trail that leads to the Earthlodge. These tables are first come, first served at all times.
FUNERAL MOUND PICNIC AREA
There are four tables located in the parking lot for Funeral Mound. There is absolutely no shade, and the tables are surrounded by asphalt, so on a hot day in Georgia you might as well be dining in hell. As with the tables near the Visitor Center, there are no grills.
