There are two launch points for hand-paddled watercraft within the Palisades Unit of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. See the Directions page for ramp locations.
PACES MILL
The southernmost river enter / exit point within Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is at the Paces Mill section of the Palisades Unit. There are actually two boat ramps at Paces Mill, one for hand-launched watercraft and the other for trailer-launched boats. The hand-launched watercraft ramp is located in the main section of the park near the large parking lot and picnic area. This used to be the only ramp at Paces Mill and was used for all boats. However, since a ramp for motorboats was installed in 2015, this ramp is now for hand-launched watercraft only, and vehicle and trailer access is blocked. The trailer-launch ramp, on the other hand, has parking for vehicles with trailers.
WHITEWATER CREEK
Though not on any National Park Service maps or other literature, there is a canoe launch at the eastern section of the Palisades Unit of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area at Whitewater Creek. From the parking lot, take the path to the left and walk one minute to reach the launch area. To keep everyone out of the mud, a boardwalk made of recycled plastic leads to the riverbank. There are two terraced steps at the end of the boardwalk.
