See the Picnic Area web page for an interactive location map.
There are two groups of picnic tables near the Fort Barrancas Visitor Center. One group is located on the left side of the building near the trailhead for the Trench Trail (photo above). Here you will find four tables randomly scattered over a sandy area that is not particularly appealing. There are no grills.
A second group is located along the paved path behind the Visitor Center that leads to Fort Barrancas. Take the dirt trail marked by a PICNIC TABLE sign when the trail forks. Again, these tables are just sitting in a sandy area with not much thought behind their placement. There are a half dozen tables, but no grills.
The Fort Barrancas Picnic Area is not meant to be a spot for a weekend family outing. These tables are here so that visitors to the fort might have a place to sit down for a quick bite to eat. If you are looking for a place to hold an event or an all day family outing, try the facilities at Opal Beach, Battery Worth, Johnson Beach, or Langdon Beach. Even Naval Live Oaks has a pavilion, though it cannot be reserved. See the Picnic Areas web page for details on these facilities.
